The biodiverse Hainan Island still harbors natural treasures in the plant world that have not yet been recognized, as Chinese scientists found a large number of rare species in mountainous areas in the central part of the island, said experts with the Haikou-based China Academy of Tropical Agricultural Science (CATAS) at a news conference on Thursday.
Hainan is known as a gene bank for nature in China and even in the world as the tropical province boasts rare and rich rainforest resources, ecosystems and biodiversity.
