Nixie Lam urges Western politicians to stop using HK as a pawn

Nixie Lam, lawmaker-elect from the Election Committee constituency and a Hong Kong member of the All-China Youth Federation, on Tuesday urged Western politicians to stop meddling in Hong Kong affairs and attempting to stir up chaos again.
"They really should focus on their own issues, such as improving people's livelihoods and controlling the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic," Lam said.
The remarks came after the Five Eyes alliance issued a joint statement on Hong Kong and expressed their concerns about results of the city's Legislative Council election and the city's democracy.
Lam saw hypocrisy in such criticism. She said some Western politicians attempted to use Hong Kong as a pawn to curb China's peaceful development and advance their political agenda in the name of democracy.
She said the case is similar to what she saw in 2019, when the city was rocked by violence and vandalism and people were living in a state of fear. "The instigators who were responsible, however, were portrayed as heroes by some Western politicians and media," Lam recalled.
"But it doesn't really matter what they said. With the new legislature, I believe we'll leave all the chaotic old days behind." Lam said.
She added that all lawmakers-elect will join hands to make the city move forward.
