China vows countermeasures against new US tariffs

China will take resolute countermeasures to firmly safeguard its rights and interests after the United States announced that it will impose an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese exports to the US, starting Tuesday, under the pretext of fentanyl-related concerns, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
China is one of the world's strictest and most thorough enforcers of anti-narcotics policies. China and the US have engaged in extensive and in-depth cooperation on drug control, achieving significant results, said a ministry spokesperson in an online statement on Tuesday.
However, the US has repeatedly shirked its responsibilities and made the same mistakes again by using the fentanyl issue as a pretext to impose additional tariffs on Chinese exports, said the commerce official.
The statement said this move disregards facts, ignores international trade rules and global concerns, and exemplifies unilateralism and bullying.
China urges the US to respect the rights and interests of other countries, immediately withdraw the unreasonable and unjustified unilateral tariff measures, and recognize that such actions are harmful to both sides, said the spokesperson, calling on the US to adopt an objective and rational approach to resolving issues and to swiftly return to the right path of addressing differences through equal dialogue.
