Jinan welcomes first pet-friendly high-speed train
China's first high-speed train offering pet shipping services, G119, arrived at Jinan West Railway Station on April 10, marking the official launch of a new travel option for pet owners.
This pilot program makes Jinan one of the first cities in the country to support pet-friendly high-speed rail transport.
Under the new initiative, passengers can book pet transport on selected Beijing–Shanghai high-speed rail routes through the official 12306 app. The service adopts a "human-pet separation, dedicated care" model, with pets placed in specially designed transport containers stored in a separate freight section of the train.
Each container is equipped with air circulation, temperature and humidity controls, noise reduction features, and real-time monitoring. Pets are regularly checked on by trained staff during the journey but are not fed or visited by their owners. Upon arrival, pets can be picked up at the destination station after a notification is sent.
The service follows a "same departure, same arrival" principle, requiring pets and their owners to travel on the same train. Pricing is based on travel distance, with a 30-percent discount during the trial period and complimentary basic insurance included.
