Mainland urges Taiwan businesses to jointly resist external risks, challenges

The Chinese mainland Taiwan affairs official Song Tao stressed on Friday that the mainland has always been a strong supporter of Taiwan business people and will address the difficulties faced by them due to the recent trade war.
Song, head of both the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, met with representatives of Taiwan business people in the mainland in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, on Friday to listen to their opinions.
Song said the latest tariff war initiated by the United States will not change the basic trend of the mainland's stable, resilient, and long-term positive economic foundation.
"We have sufficient wisdom and capability to address and overcome various challenges," he said.
The mainland will propose practical policy measures to strengthen the connection of industrial and supply chains across the Taiwan Strait, support Taiwan enterprises in participating in major national strategies, and assist them in expanding domestic market, Song said.
He called on the Taiwan business community to remain confident, focus on the long term, actively engage in cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, and work together to resist external risks and challenges.
Taiwanese business representatives said that the indiscriminate imposition of tariffs by the US has severely disrupted the global trade order, putting pressure and impact on some export-oriented Taiwan enterprises, and some companies are facing challenges in the short term such as reduced orders, rising costs, and squeezed profit margins.
The business representatives said that the institutional advantages and economic resilience of the mainland are fundamental guarantees in resisting risks, and efforts will be made to actively seek new and greater development opportunities.
They said that Taiwan businesses firmly support the countermeasures taken by the country against the US, and they have confidence in winning this tariff war alongside the nation, achieving sustained and healthy development in the mainland.
