A marriage made in art

Zizhuyuan Park, or Purple Bamboo Park, in the western area of Beijing, hosts lush plants and scenic lakes separated by small islands that offer a peaceful spot outside the city.
Recently, Wang Ying returned to the garden where she had worked as a designer for decades. This time, she is holding a joint painting exhibition with her husband of 55 years, Song Di.
The couple displays dozens of ink paintings, watercolors and calligraphic works at Wangyue Lou, a two-story building facing the park's expansive waters. The exhibition runs until July 6.
The show reflects the two artists' respective areas of interest in style and motif. Wang focuses on still-life subjects, especially flowers, of which fine brushwork and soft tones deliver a poetic mood. Song is known in the ink-color realm, and his landscape paintings are well-received at home and abroad.
