PIA launches direct Lahore to Baku flights to boost tourism and enhance air connectivity.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially commenced direct flight operations between Lahore and Baku, a move aimed at strengthening international air links and boosting tourism.
To celebrate the launch, a special ceremony took place at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, with notable attendees including Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Khazar Farhadov, Secretary Defence Major General (R) Aamir Ashfaq Kayani, and other dignitaries.
The inaugural event included a cake-cutting ceremony and the distribution of special gifts to passengers flying on the maiden flight.
Speaking at the event, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif praised the government’s recent diplomatic successes and affirmed that Pakistan’s economy is on a growth trajectory under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership.
The first flight took off with 174 passengers, as PIA begins operating two weekly flights between Lahore and Baku to foster closer relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
PIA referred to Baku as the “Europe of Asia,” highlighting its striking architecture, cultural richness, and flavorful cuisine.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) made special arrangements to ensure the launch event was both smooth and memorable.
