The 16th UN Chinese Language Day celebration kicked off on April 20 at Fuzhou University of International Studies and Trade in Fuzhou, capital of East China's Fujian province.
With over 600 students and teachers from 30 countries present, Shahbaz Khan, director and representative of the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, delivered a video speech.
The event aimed to promote Chinese culture globally and also to foster cultural exchanges between China and other nations through language and cultural interactions.
During the event, a series of thematic lectures and cultural exchange activities unfolded. Spanish sinologist Agustin Alepuz Morales shared his expertise on translating Chinese literary works across cultures.
Winners of the Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students and student representatives shared their Chinese language learning experiences.
Participants from China and abroad read Chinese classics together and watched Chang'an, the 2023 Chinese 3D animated historical movie, exploring the blend of poetry and film for cultural exchanges and mutual learning.
At a photo exhibition showcasing Fu culture and intangible cultural heritage projects, foreign students delved into Quanzhou string puppetry, ancient ceramics restoration techniques and Song Dynasty (960-1279) tea ceremonies, immersing themselves in the charm of traditional Chinese culture.
A highlight was the opening ceremony for the 2025 International Chinese Language + Fu Culture Study Camp, which took place during the event.
Over the coming week, the camp will host various activities, including visits and discussions, to deepen the integration of Chinese culture with international education, as well as to nurture the bonds of friendship and cultural growth.
