Residents in Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong Province and tourists
from other places flock to the Baotu Spring and Black Tiger Springs starting
from last week as a gush of water reappeared there after having been dried up
for years.
Thanks to the measures the local government take to ban the pumping of ground
water, the four major and also the most famed springs have all resumed flowing,
as the last one, the Black Tiger Spring, started to gush early Tuesday morning.
In Baotu Spring Park, the number of the tourists times that of the week
before, said officials with the park. Beside every spring, tourists will make a
stop and enjoy the long-time-no-see spring water.
Jinan, also called the Spring City, has 548 springs and was historically
famous for its Four Springs in old city area, including the Baotu Spring, the
Pearl Spring, the Black Tiger Spring and the Five Dragons Spring.
Before the Black Tiger Spring resumed its flow, signs indicated the
resumption likely as minor springs around the Spring began to recover.
Jinan's major springs dried out in recent years because of excessive
exploitation of groundwater.
