China calls for stronger APEC economic, technical cooperation ( 2003-10-19 16:08) (Xinhua) Chinese President Hu Jintao
urged here Sunday the Pacific Rim economies to strengthen their economic and
technical cooperation to help turn potential markets into real ones.
Addressing the CEO Summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, Hu
said promoting the development of APEC's developing members should be an
important mission of the organization.
"We should vigorously strengthen APEC economic and technical cooperation, for
it contributes to faster economic growth of the developing members and helps
them to turn their potential market into a real one," Hu said.
"It also benefits the developed members by securing them even greater market
access, leading in the end to the achievement of common development and common
prosperity of all members," he added.

requires not only efforts at formulating and implementing policies and measures
for economic development but also joint endeavors to promote overall progress in
the societies.
"We should commit greater resources to the development of science,
technology, education, culture, public health, strengthening ecological
protection and environment management, rationally exploiting natural resources
and bringing about a coordinated economic and social development and harmonious
coexistence between man and nature," Hu added.
"Realizing sustained economic growth also requires vision, courage and skills
of business leaders," he said, adding that China would make full use of the APEC
mechanism.
"We should get along with the trend of economic globalization and regional
economic integration and redouble our efforts toward common development and
common prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region by enhancing mutual trust, stepping
up cooperation and cultivating a network of partnerships of all-round
cooperation," the Chinese president said.
