WHO, Chinese experts discuss on SARS prevention in Guangdong
( 2004-01-01 22:35) (Xinhua)

Officials and experts with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Chinese health departments Thursday held a closed-door meeting in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, on measures to prevent a recurrence of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

The eight-hour meeting was attended by three WHO experts and three Chinese Ministry of Health (MOH) experts, and others from disease control and prevention centers (CDC) at the national, provincial and Guangzhou city levels.

The meeting came after an inspection tour of hospitals in Guangzhou and the provincial and city CDCs by the six WHO and MOH experts over the last two days. The experts arrived in Guangzhou on Monday to examine a suspected SARS case.

Dr. Augusto Pinto, a WHO expert, said the meeting covered measures to prevent SARS infection in hospitals, and the supervision and monitoring of those in contact with SARS patients, as well as other anti-SARS measures in Guangdong.

The experts discussed the registration and treatment of fever patients in outpatient departments, according to sources with local health bureau.

Participants refused to give more details of the meeting to the press.
