Xiamen is well developed in science and education. There are 120 scientific
research institutes, 3 universities and colleges and 12 polytechnics. With 10%
of its urban population being of higher learning background, it is one of the
"National Advanced cities in Making the Country Prosperous by Means of
Developing Science and Education". The cultural cause is brisk in Xiamen. It has
facilities such as golf course, sports center, ballroom, etc. In addition to the
five-star Mandarin Hotel, there are a number of three-star and four-star hotels.
The medical facilities are perfect with 581 full ranging medical establishments.
