Chinese President Hu Jintao and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh vowed Saturday to exert joint efforts to push forward bilateral good-neighborly relations of friendship.

The two leaders met here on Saturday on the sidelines of the two-day Asian-African Summit which was aimed at establishing a new strategic partnership between the Asian and African continents.

Hu said the Sino-Indian ties are one of the most important bilateral relations in Asia and the world at large. The strategic impact of Sino-Indian ties is far beyond both bilateral and Asian ranges.

China and India are both big developing countries with ancient civilizations, Hu said, adding the two countries also jointly initiated the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence.

"China and India should be good neighbors, good friends and good partners,"Hu added.

At present, the Sino-Indian relations face precious opportunities of development, both countries should seize the good opportunities and push forward bilateral mutually-beneficial cooperation, the Chinese president said.

During the meeting, the two leaders voiced satisfaction with the development of Sino-Indian ties, and highly praised Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's recent successful visit to India.

The Chinese president also noted that China and India enjoy broad prospect of cooperation in areas of economy, science and technology, culture and education as the two countries boast their own advantages in such areas and are highly complementary.

The consensus reached on political guiding principles for resolving the boundary issue has laid a sound basis for pushing forward the settlement of boundary issue between China and India, the Chinese president added.

For his part, Singh said China is a great neighbor of India and the Indian government attaches great importance to developing its relations with China.

India and China are partners seeking common development instead of rivals, the Indian prime minister noted.

The Indian government is willing to take the opportunity of establishing strategic partnership toward peace and prosperity, implement the consensus and push forward the development of bilateral ties in an around-way, Singh said.

India is willing to exert joint efforts with China and seek balanced and reasonable settlement to the boundary issue, the Indian prime minister said.
