Rangers, meanwhile, could only manage a 3-3 draw away to bottom of the table Dunfermline. Andy Tod put the Pars ahead early before Peter Lovenkrands equalized with a fine free-kick.

Mark Burchill restored the home side's lead before the break but again Lovenkrands equalized, this time from the penalty spot in the 64th minute.

Dunfermline's Lee Makel was sent off and the points looked to be heading back to Glasgow when Chris Burke put Rangers ahead.

However, in the fourth minute of injury time Jim Leishman's side were awarded a penalty of their own, and Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos was sent off for his second booking. Darren Young converted the spot-kick to ensure the points were shared.

Second-placed Hearts hammered 10-man Falkirk 5-0 at Tynecastle with Paul Hartley opening the scoring before Steven O'Donnell was sent off for the visitors. Czech midfielder Rudi Skacel and Calum Elliot scored twice more in the first-half and after the break goals from Czech striker Michal Pospisil and a second for Elliot clinched the easy win.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle won 2-0 at home to Hibernian, with early goals from Barry Wilson and Craig Dargo giving Craig Brewster's side all three points.

A last gasp goal from Gary Wales gave Kilmarnock a 2-1 win at home to Dundee United. This followed Gary McDonald's opener for the home side in the first-half and an equaliser from United's Trinidad and Tobago international Collin Samuel in the second-half.

And Motherwell were easy 3-1 winners at home to Aberdeen. Australian striker Scott McDonald scored a brace to put Well in the driving seat before the break and Alan McCormack scored a third in the second-half. John Stewart scored a late consolation for the Dons.
