通往自行車運動的成功之路
[ 2007-03-29 14:26 ]

British Cycling has teamed up with Sport England, Tesco and the National Sports Foundation, to issue a rallying call to the nation.

The governing body of cycling is launching Everyday Cycling, a major new leisure cycling initiative designed to push pedal power.

Peter King, British Cycling CEO, said: “We want cycling to make the single biggest contribution to the Government’s 2020 target of 70% of the population getting active five times per week. At the heart of Everyday Cycling are people of all ages and abilities just having a great time on their bikes, whether that is riding to work or school, at the weekend with the family or participating in organised cycling events”.

The initiative’s online portal, www.everydaycycling.com offers a number of services for leisure cyclists, ranging from complete beginners through to serious challenge riders, including:

  • Comprehensive routes and rides section including everything from family friendly routes to challenging on and off-road routes
  • Exciting interactive features including a calendar function allowing users to search for and enter a broad range of leisure cycling events
  • An Activity Log for users to record their riding times whether it be the daily commute or long distance challenge events
  • Information and resources for those wishing to commute to work by bike or train for challenges
  • Maintenance advice
  • Tips for cycling with the family
  • A dynamic news hub with all the latest leisure cycling news, views, events and features

Everyday Cycling will become a core element of Sport England’s Everyday Sport campaign which aims to increase the nation’s activity levels in a bid to halt rising obesity levels. Everyday Cycling is also an integral part of the Tesco ambition to help get two million people active in the run up to London 2012.

Stephen Baddeley, Sport England Chief Executive, said: “Sport England fully supports Everyday Cycling. It’s a great initiative and the website provides a whole host of great routes, rides and events to help people get back on their bikes and get active. It ties in perfectly with our Everyday Sport campaign which is also encouraging people to get active and improve their health, showing them ways to fit physical activity into their daily lives.”

Ian Drake, British Cycling’s Director of Operations, added “We hope that Everyday Cycling will become the one stop shop for all things leisure cycling. Our aim is to bring the best routes, rides and events together on one site, encouraging new riders to get into cycling and existing riders to try new routes and set themselves new challenges.”

Everyday Cycling will run a series of family cycling events throughout the summer in partnership with a number of high profile organisations including Tesco, GlaxoSmithKline and Center Parcs.
