In a meeting on July 26, government officials discussed the further development of Huaqiao Park. Zhang Guohua, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee called for Huaqiao to build new city, start new industry and attract new talents in an effort to make Huaqiao the pioneer of all districts during the economic restructuring of Kunshan city.
Zhang said he appreciated the achievements of Huaqiao Park, for its reforms in industrial development, urban construction, serving facilities, human resources and social undertakings. Zhang said that Huaqiao Park is a good model for Kunshan’s economic restructuring. "Huaqiao Park has see dramatic breakthroughs in attracting related enterprises, increasing outputs of enterprises and brand building," said Zhang.
For the next stage of development, Zhang suggested that Huaqiao Park should focus on the construction of pan-Pudong and pan-Hongqiao. Located on the border between Shanghai and Jiangsu provinces, the Park has unique geographical advantages, which makes it very convenient to share the advantages spilled over from Shanghai’s business agglomeration. Huaqiao Park must seize this precious opportunity and utilize this unique time difference in the competition with other districts in development.
In the future, Huaqiao must pay attention to five aspects: city image branding, industry development on "the four key fields", human resource, the construction of serving facilities, such as core area, service outsourcing center and other functional areas, and finally, professional support platform on operation standards, communication networks, logistics, technology innovation and financing.
Zhang said he believed that the harsh time for Huaqiao Park has passed, but challenges still remain. Officials in Huaqiao should keep united in creating an active political system and providing effective and efficient service.
Finally, on behalf of the Kunshan government, Zhang promised to give constant support for a freer development environment and future development opportunities.
Ren Xueyuan, Director of the Managing Committee of Huaqiao Economic Development Zone, agreed with the five aspects mentioned in the municipal government’s recommendations. Also, he promised to be responsible and keep the sense of urgency in holding this chance for development, in the hope of leading economic development in Kunshan.
