Millionaires in Asia-Pacific to be more than which in North America

According to a Phoenix TV station's reporting, the total number of millionaires in Asia-Pacific has a big chance of exceeding those in North America this year, based on a US Global Wealth Report, xinhuanet.com said on Friday.

The report said the Asia-Pacific region will be the region which has the most millionaires. Among them, the number in China exceeded 750,000 last year, placing it in fourth place around the world.

Students planned naked run to get air conditioners

Students at South China Normal University organized a naked run campaign on campus on Friday night to rally for the university to install air conditioners in their dormitories, xkb.com.cn reported.

Students on campus suffer in the scorching summer heat, but the university hadn't installed the air conditioners in a very long time. Faced with the students' appeal, the university has started to install the air conditioners.

Police take gun training in rotation in Beijing

The Beijing police started gun training for more than 1,300 police officers-to-be at Beijing Police College to deal with the serious situation of terrorism, bjyouth.ynet.com reported on Friday.

A police officer of Haidian Public Security Bureau in Beijing introduced the training. It will include simulations of actual combat and focus on sharpshooting to make sure officials can fire a gun with unfailing accuracy in an emergency situation.

Govt rewards citizens who fought terrorists

The government of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region gave 500,000 yuan ($80,000) as a reward to two groups of citizens who helped to fight terrorist activities and violent crimes, Xinjiang Daily reported on Wednesday.

A group in Hotan who fought three terrorists attacking people in a game room on Sunday was awarded 300,000. A group of citizens in Pishan county, who captured three terrorist suspects with machetes, daggers and twelve explosive devices in late May, received 200,000 yuan.

Police vow crackdown on illegal soccer betting

A senior police officer has reiterated zero tolerance for illegal soccer betting during the 2014 World Cup.

Zheng Zehui, director of the social security bureau with the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, said police have enhanced investigations into and crackdowns on illegal soccer betting after reports that illegal online soccer gambling is on the rise during the World Cup.

Non-hukou population surges in the capital

The growth rate of Beijing's population without hukou was nearly three times that of permanent residents in 2013, Beijing News reported.

By the end of 2013, Beijing had more than 13 million permanent residents and more than 8 million people who had no hukou, or residence permits, but had lived awhile in the city.

Woman fends off Tibetan mastiff

A 48-year-old woman saved a boy from being attacked by a Tibetan mastiff, Orient Today reported on Thursday.

Wang Junrong, who is only 1.53 meters tall, was helping her neighbor move furniture when she saw the neighbor's Tibetan mastiff break free from its restraining chain and approach a 4-year-old boy. She ran in front of the boy and asked him to leave. She then fought the dog for 20 minutes before being rescued and sent to a hospital.
