FIFA signs anti-doping declaration (Xinhua) Updated: 2004-05-22 14:11
World soccer's governing body FIFA announced its participation in the world
anti-doping code here on Friday.
Although FIFA signed a declaration instead of the code itself at its
centennial congress, FIFA officials said it was a formality which signals its
intent to join up to the world anti-doping code.
"This is a great day for sport and the fight against doping," said Dick
Pound, head of the World Anti-Doping Agency.
"I am sure this marriage between FIFA and WADA will be a long one and produce
good children," said International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge.
And the newest development left The International Cycling Union (UCI) the
only international federation that has yet decided to back the
code.
