3.喬治﹒布什

　　1989年美國(guó)總統(tǒng)喬治﹒布什在訪華的歡迎晚宴上兩度展示他的中國(guó)文化功底。在祝酒辭的一開(kāi)始，老布什就說(shuō)：

　　“There's a Chinese proverb that says:“One generation plants a tree; the next sits in its shade.”

　　有一個(gè)中國(guó)諺語(yǔ)這樣說(shuō)：前人栽樹(shù)，后人乘涼，由此稱贊中國(guó)人正在栽種改革之樹(shù)，而且這一代人已經(jīng)開(kāi)始收獲果實(shí)。

　　隨后，老布什提到他和芭芭拉在中國(guó)旅行的難忘經(jīng)歷，特別是杜甫的老家四川。

　　老布什提到乘船經(jīng)過(guò)三峽的經(jīng)歷時(shí)說(shuō)：…where we relished the history of the Three Kingdoms and could almost hear the poet Li Bo's description of“the monkeys who screamed from the two sides without stopping.

　　我們想起了三國(guó)故事，幾乎聽(tīng)到了詩(shī)人李白“兩岸猿聲啼不住，輕舟已過(guò)萬(wàn)重山”的描述。
