Chinese mobile phone users are being flooded withspam text messages,with 6.25 per cent of them receiving spam more than 40 times a week, according to a survey by the China Internet Society.
The survey, released on Tuesday, shows that 35 per cent of all 4,721 users questioned across the country receive five to 10 spam messages a week, while 15 per cent get 10 to 20. On average, each user receives at least eight spam messages a week, questionnaires show.
Common junk messages include advertisements, swindles, information onillegal selling of vehicles, weapons or fake diplomas, and short message services (SMS) that users never signed up for.
However, the survey shows that only 6.1 per cent of users have ever appealed to supervisory departments and about half of them do not know how to cancel unwanted SMS subscriptions.
Lu Xiangdong, vice-president of China Mobile Communications Corporation, said even he can't escape from spam messages.
In order to control spam messages, mobile operators should be more vigilant about suspiciously large numbers of text messages from one sender, said Lu. On the other hand, mobile service providers should offer users more healthy content such as news, e-books and TV programmes.
To step up such efforts, China's four major mobile operators, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom and China Netcom, joined 14 other service providers, including Sina.com and Sohu.com, to establish a "Green Mobile Culture" association on Tuesday. Members promised not to spread unhealthy or illegal information, and make further efforts to wipe out spam messages.
Figures from the Ministry of Information Industry show China had 449 million mobile phone users by last month, 56 million more than that of the end of last year.

這項(xiàng)于上周二公布的調(diào)查顯示，在全國(guó)4721名受調(diào)查的手機(jī)用戶中，有35％的人每周收到5至10條垃圾短信，15％的人每周收到10至20條。根據(jù)調(diào)查問卷的統(tǒng)計(jì)結(jié)果，我國(guó)的手機(jī)用戶平均每周收到至少8條垃圾短信。
垃圾短信的主要內(nèi)容包括商品廣告，欺詐類短信，倒賣黑車、槍支的短信、代辦各類證件的短信及用戶未訂閱的短信服務(wù)等。
然而，調(diào)查顯示，只有6.1％的手機(jī)用戶收到垃圾短信后會(huì)向監(jiān)管部門舉報(bào)，近一半的用戶不知道如何退訂沒有訂閱的短信服務(wù)。
中國(guó)移動(dòng)通信公司副總裁魯向東說，就連他也難逃垃圾短信的“騷擾”。
魯向東說，為了控制垃圾短信的泛濫，移動(dòng)運(yùn)營(yíng)商應(yīng)對(duì)大量可疑群發(fā)短信保持高度警惕。另一方面，服務(wù)提供商應(yīng)向用戶提供一些如新聞、電子書和電視節(jié)目等內(nèi)容更加健康的信息服務(wù)。
為了治理垃圾短信泛濫的問題，我國(guó)四大移動(dòng)運(yùn)營(yíng)商--中國(guó)移動(dòng)、中國(guó)聯(lián)通、中國(guó)電信和中國(guó)網(wǎng)通聯(lián)手新浪網(wǎng)、搜狐網(wǎng)等14家服務(wù)提供商于上周二成立了中國(guó)“綠色手機(jī)文化”建設(shè)聯(lián)盟。聯(lián)盟成員做出承諾：不傳播不良信息和非法信息，并為掃除垃圾短信做出進(jìn)一步努力。
據(jù)信息產(chǎn)業(yè)部的有關(guān)數(shù)據(jù)顯示，截至上個(gè)月，我國(guó)的手機(jī)用戶數(shù)量達(dá)到4.49億，比去年年底增加了5600萬。
